Happy Camper

January 28, 2009

I don’t know what it is that gets me all a twitter when it comes to campers, but I love them! Most all of them. Anything Airstream – especially this one:

airstreambambi21But this new incarnation by Canadian designer Alexandre Verdier has moved to the top of my faves list.

ecocamperthingy341It’s one of the greenest vehicles made today, powered by a 4-speed automatic turbocharged bio-diesel hybrid drivetrain, and solar panels hooked up to a removable GPS on-board computer that adjusts settings for optimal charging.

This little getup takes car camping to a whole new level. A stripped down version will cost you $69,000. While the deluxe version at $129,000 includes a fridge, a freezer, a table, a stove, two pop-out side panels, adjustable roof height, and of course, an on-board entertainment center, complete with a projector, 6 speaker surround sound, and a roll down screen. These amenities are offered in 5 different ‘Verdier’ personalities – Woody, Geeky, Ebony, Blueberry, and Purity. How cute is that?
The Verdier definitely takes its design lead (and logo) from the classic VW bus and the Westfalia. Not sure how they got away with this?

Reservations are now being taken for these nifty little campers and the first ones should be available in Summer ‘09. Roadtrip anyone?

Can someone spare $129,000? That is awesome.

BTW, I love this vehicle. So cool. I’d say “awesome”, but it was already taken.

Has this camper gone into production yet. If so where do I get one from?
